BACCALAUREATE IN PHILOSOPHY, THE PONTIFICAL UNIVERSITY,
ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE, MAYNOOTH
Candidates for the B.A. of the National University of Ireland or the H.Dip. may also become candidates for the B. Ph. of the Pontificial University, St Patrick's College, Maynooth. To be eligible, candidates must graduate with a Double Honours B.A. Degree in Philosophy and attain a grade of at least Second Class Honours, Grade II in Philosophy.
Candidates intending to go forward for the B.Ph. should make themselves known at the Department of Philosophy, NUIM, before the end of the summer examinations.
The Degree is awarded on the basis of a substantial essay (comparable to the B.A. dissertation, minimum 6000 words, on any topic in philosophy, handed in to the Departmental Office before 26th August. The topic has to be agreed with the Head of Department. Students may approach any member of staff for a discussion about their topic. say must be sent by the student in electronic format to Turnitin at www.turnitin.com, the anti-plagiarism website, and in hard copy to the Department. The essay will not be corrected until the report from Turnitin is received in the Department.)
Please Note: B.A. students are not required to take elective PH316A in order to qualify to do the B.Phil. Essays already submitted as a dissertation may not be submitted for the B.Phil. Degree.
The conferring of PU degrees normally takes place during the second week of September each year.
